RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Harding’s Zach Roddenberry (pictured left) and Arkansas Tech’s Katie Horsman (pictured right) have been named the Great American Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Players of the Week for their performances during the award period of February 13-19.
MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Harding junior forward Zach Roddenberry has been named the GAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 23.5 points per game and shooting 63.3 percent from the field in an 0-2 week for the Bisons. The Conyers, Ga. native connected on a weekly total of 19-of-30 field goal attempts and 9-of-15 free throw attempts for a two-game total of 47 points in losses to Ouachita Baptist and Southeastern Oklahoma State. In the 69-60 loss to OBU at home last Thursday, Roddenberry was 4-of-7 from the field and 5-of-9 from the charity stripe for 13 points. He also grabbed 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Two days later, he connected on 15-of-23 field goal attempts and 4-of-6 foul shots for a total of 34 points in a 96-79 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State on the road. It was the second highest single-game point total in the GAC this season, and was also the best individual scoring performance for Harding this year. Roddenberry also grabbed eight rebounds in the loss to the Savage Storm to give him an average of 9.5 rebounds per game for the week. He becomes the second HU men’s honoree this season and first since DeAntra Scott earned the weekly award on November 29.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Arkansas Tech senior forward Katie Horsman has been named the GAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 20.5 points per game in a 2-0 week for the 13th-ranked Golden Suns. The Fairfield Bay, Ark. native connected on 12-of-28 field goal attempts throughout the week for a two-game total of 41 points in wins over Southeastern Oklahoma State and Henderson State. She started the week with a 14-point, 5 rebound outing in ATU’s 71-52 road-victory over Southeastern last Thursday, but saved her best performance of the week for last two days later in a 79-64 win over Henderson State at home. In the win over the Lady Reddies, Horsman connected on 7-of-19 field goal attempts, including a 6-of-15 outing from three-point range for a total of 27 points. She added three more rebounds to her weekly totals, as well as two assists and two steals in the win over HSU. Horsman becomes the third ATU women’s honoree this season.
