RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Thomas Davis (pictured left) has been named the Great American Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while the women’s award for this week is shared between East Central’s Jourdan Clark (pictured middle) and Arkansas Tech’s Samanta Ludwig (pictured right).
MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Southwestern Oklahoma State junior forward Thomas Davis has been named the GAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 26 points per game and shooting 60 percent from the field in a 1-1 week for the Bulldogs. The Lufkin, Texas native racked up a weekly total of 52 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and five steals, while making 15-of-25 field goal attempts and 22-of-33 foul shots (66.7 percent). Davis started the week with a 24-point, eight-reboundouting in a 77-73 loss to Henderson State at home last Thursday. He was 8-of-14 from the field in the loss, and 8-of-11 at the charity stripe. Two days later, Davis cracked the 20-point barrier for the fifth time this season by tallying 28 points in a 79-53 win over Ouachita Baptist at home. He was 7-of-11 from the field in the win, and 14-of-21 from the free-throw line. He also added 12 rebounds in the win over OBU for his first double-double of the season.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
East Central junior guard Jourdan Clark and Arkansas Tech senior forward Samanta Ludwig have been named the GAC Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week for their performances during the 11th award period of the 2011-12 season. Clark earns ECU’s first weekly honor from the GAC after averaging 19 points and 6.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Lady Tigers. The Midwest City, Okla. native scored a weekly total of 38 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while shooting 50 percent from the field (10-of-20) and 75 percent at the foul line (15-of-20). She started the week with 16 points and six rebounds in a 77-72 win over Ouachita Baptist at home last Thursday. Two days later, Clark turned in a 22-point, seven-rebound performance in a 79-66 win over Henderson State at home. Ludwig earns her first GAC weekly honor (ATU’s second) after sinking 11-of-13 field goal attempts (84.6 percent) for 22 points in ATU’s only game of the week, a 77-76 win over Arkansas-Monticello on the road last Thursday. The Toledo, Brazil native also added 11 rebounds in the win for her second consecutive double-double.
