SWOSU EASES INTO SEMIS WITH 35-POINT WIN

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – No. 2 seed Southwestern Oklahoma State held its opponent to just 29 percent from the field in an 81-46 win over No. 7 seed East Central on Friday in the opening round of the inaugural Great American Conference Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament.

SWOSU improves to 18-9 overall and will face No. 3 seed Ouachita Baptist in the GAC semi-finals on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Bruin Fieldhouse in Bartlesville. ECU ends its season with an overall record of 8-19.

The Bulldogs of SWOSU were led in scoring by a duo of seniors. Sumiya Darden led all scorers with 21 points, followed closely by GAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year Darcie Dick with 20 points.

Fanta Toure was the only ECU scorer to reach double-figures with 13 points in just 18 minutes of court time.
