UAM RALLY FALLS SHORT, OBU ADVANCES TO SEMIS

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – No. 3 seed Ouachita Baptist secured a spot in the semi-finals of the inaugural Great American Conference Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament by erasing a five-point deficit with three minutes remaining to defeat No. 6 seed Arkansas-Monticello by a final score of 74-72 on Friday at the Bruin Fieldhouse.

UAM’s Channon Haywood nailed two free-throws to give the Cotton Blossoms a 72-67 lead with 3:01 remaining in regulation before OBU closed the contest on a 7-0 run to secure the victory. UAM had tied the game for the first time since the opening tip at the 7:36 mark of the second half on a free throw from Chelsea Johnson to knot the score at 62-all.

Johnson led all scorers with 23 points on a 9-of-16 shooting performance. A’Laeshia Adams led OBU with 15 points, while teammate Nashia James added 13.

OBU improves to 18-9 overall this season and is set to face the winner of the Southwestern Oklahoma State vs. East Central game in the GAC semi-finals on Saturday at 6 p.m. UAM ends its season with an overall record of 11-16.
