UAM SECURES INAUGURAL GAC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT TITLE

2012 GAC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP HOME PAGE

BENTONVILLE, Ark. –
No. 1 seed Arkansas-Monticello defeated No. 2 seed Southeastern Oklahoma State 9-2 on Saturday to secure the inaugural Great American Conference Softball Championship Tournament title.

It is UAM’s first overall conference tournament championship in its 17-year history. The Cotton Blossoms improve to 40-14 with the win, while Southeastern Oklahoma State falls to 40-16.

The Cotton Blossoms racked up 13 hits in the win, highlighted by six spots in the lineup with two hits. Sophomore Summer Huddleston led the run production with four runs batted in, including a two-run single in the fourth and a two-run single in the fifth.

Senior Kayla Jackson improved to 31-6 in the circle after collecting a complete-game victory. Jackson allowed two runs of four hits with 10 strikeouts and only one walk. Southeastern’s Audra Rhudy (27-11) took the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) off nine hits with one strikeout and two walks in five innings of work.

Jackson, Huddleston and Rhudy all earned a spot on the 14-person all-tournament team. Jackson was named the event’s most valuable player after collecting four complete-game victories throughout the tournament and only allowing three runs.
