Southeastern Oklahoma State junior Brandon Marris tossed a complete-game, two hit shutout to keep No. 2 seed Southeastern Oklahoma State in the winner’s bracket with a 1-0
(BOX SCORE) victory over No. 5 seed Ouachita Baptist on Friday in the first round of the inaugural Great American Conference Baseball Championship Tournament.

Marris (11-3) allowed only two base runners to reach scoring position throughout his nine innings of work. The Colony, Texas native allowed only three walks and struck out five of the 32 batters he faced.

Southeastern’s run came in the bottom of the third on an infield single from left fielder Blake Gentry to score third baseman Keith Price. Price was hit by a pitch in his at bat, moved to second on a single from Chad Colbert and advanced to third base on a wild pitch before Gentry’s run-producing at bat.

Ouachita Baptist’s Ryan Westover (5-5) was saddled with the loss after allowing one run off four hits with six strikeouts and only one walk in his eight innings ofwork.

SOSU improves to 33-15 overall, while OBU drops to 26-25. The Savage Storm will next play on Saturday at 7 p.m. against either No. 3 seed Southwestern Oklahoma State or No. 4 seed Arkansas Tech. The SWOSU vs. ATU opening round matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday.

OBU is now set for an elimination game against cross-street rival Henderson State on Saturday at noon.
