RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The second week of 2013 Great American Conference football season features a pair of schools receiving votes in the latest AFCA poll - Southwestern Oklahoma State and Arkansas Tech - facing off in Russellville. Elsewhere, Arkansas-Monticello hosts Southeastern Oklahoma State, Harding faces Northwestern Oklahoma State, Ouachita Baptist opens at Southern Nazarene and East Central travels to Southern Arkansas. In non-conference action, No. 9/10 Henderson Stats hosts McKendree.

The Savage Storm’s 56 points in week one represented their highest output since also scoring 56 against Central Oklahoma in 2010, and their highest in an opener since a 101-0 win against Tishomingo A&M in 1913. Southeastern running back Devlon Wortham rushed for 220 yards vs Southern Arkansas, the highest total last week in Division II. UAM quarterback Colton Morrison completed 38-of-55 passes for 241 yards at East Central. For the first time in 25 years, the Rangers will face the Bisons when the two meet in Searcy. Both teams suffered losses in week one - Northwestern Oklahoma State lost 38-10 to Arkansas Tech and Harding dropped a 27-23 decision to Southwestern Oklahoma State. Both teams will look for improved play out of the quarterback position. In the only week two GAC matchup to feature a pair of 1-0 teams, the Bulldogs travel to Russellville for the first time in 20 years to face the Wonder Boys. Both schools received votes in this week’s AFCA Coaches’ Poll. SWOSU quarterback Dustin Stenta needs 247 passing yards to become the second quarterback in school history to amass 7,000 yards. Arkansas Tech last started 2-0 in 2009 when the Wonder Boys went 9-3 and advanced to the NCAA Division II Playoffs. Ouachita Baptist, the last GAC football team to hit the field, heads to Bethany for its first-ever meeting with Southern Nazarene. The Tigers return All-GAC running back Chris Rycraw from a team that started 6-0 in 2012 before injuries hindered the Tigers’ postseason hopes. The Crimson Storm will look to rebound from their week one lost to the Tigers’ crosstown rival, Henderson State. Two schools that lit up the scoreboard in week one meet in Magnolia for the first time since 1998 with SAU looking to avoid an 0-2 start while East Central eyes a 2-0 start for the second time in three years. The Tigers picked off an NCAA-leading four passes in their 46-22 win against Arkansas-Monticello. Last season, in Ada, the Muleriders’ defense held the Tigers to only 123 yards of offense in a 19-0 win. Mark Johnson rushed for 132 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win. In the lone non-conference contest in the GAC, Henderson State, off a record-setting performance in its opener, faces McKendree for the third straight year. Last season, Kevin Rodgers set a GAC record with seven touchdown passes in a 47-24 win against the Bearcats. Last week, he threw six against Southern Nazarene in the Reddies’ big victory. The Reddies posted the best passing yardage, total offense and points in the nation last week and Rodgers posted the top passing efficiency and yards-per-completion numbers in Division II.
