GAC BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (3/10/2014)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – East Central’s Garrett Donohoe won the Great American Conference Baseball Player of the Week award while Southern Arkansas’ Yumezo Densaki and Ouachita Baptist’s Luis DeJesus shared the Pitcher of the Week accolade for the sixth week of the 2014 season, the conference office announced on Monday.
 
GAC BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Garrett Donohoe, East Central, INF, Jr., Lake Forest, Calif.
Donohoe went 6-for-7 during the Tigers’ doubleheader sweep of Harding on Friday. He collected two doubles, a triple and a home run over the two games and tallied six RBI. He drove in five runs in the second half of the twin bill, an 8-6 victory. For the series, he hit .636 with a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.273 slugging percentage.
 
GAC BASEBALL CO- PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Yumezo Densaki, Southern Arkansas, RHP, Jr., Osaka, Japan
In a highly anticipated mid-week contest, Densaki threw seven scoreless innings as No. 4/4 Southern Arkansas beat No. 11/13 Arkansas-Monticello. He allowed just two singles and struck out seven over his seven innings of work. At one stretch, he retired 12 hitters in order as he won his second game of the year.
 
GAC BASEBALL CO PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Luis DeJesus, Ouachita Baptist, RHP, Sr., Salinas, Puerto Rico
DeJesus pitched the Tigers to a series victory against No. 11/13 Arkansas-Monticello as he threw nine scoreless innings and earned a 6-0 victory on Saturday. He allowed four hits - all singles - in improving to 3-2 and handing the Boll Weevils their first GAC series loss of the season.

  • Sage Boehner, CF, Sr., Arkansas Tech (Hit .467 with four RBI in sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma State)
  • Matt Calhoun, 1B, Sr., Harding (Recorded a four-game hit, his second this year, during series with East Central)
  • Tyler Cameron, SS, Sr., Southern Arkansas (Recorded a hit in all four wins; drove in seven runs from the leadoff spot)
  • Chris Faulkner, 1B, Sr., Southwestern Oklahoma State (Totaled five extra-base hits and hit .545 with five RBI vs Quincy)
  • Keegan Ghidotti, OF, Sr., Ouachita Baptist (Drove in six runs as Tigers took two of three from nationally-ranked UAM)
 
NOTABLE PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES                                                                  
  • Kade Garlington, RHP, Sr., Arkansas-Monticello (Earned UAM’s lone win of the win; allowed one run in six innings)
  • Oscar Gomez, RHP, Jr., East Central (Struck out six over 3.2 innings and two relief appearances against Harding)
  • Logan Holthaus, RHP, Sr., Harding (Gave up only four singles in eight innings of work in beating East Central)
  • Aaron Johnson, LHP, Jr., Arkansas Tech (Threw seven scoreless innings against Southeastern Oklahoma State)
  • Jonathan Johnson, RHP, Sr., Southwestern Oklahoma State (Limited Quincy to only four base runners in pitching a shutout)
  • Michael Morales, RHP, Sr., Northwestern Oklahoma State (Held Southern Nazarene scoreless for nine innings)
