GAC BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (4/13/15)

 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s weekly awards for the 11th week of the 2015 baseball season. East Central’s Ty Huie won the Player of the Week award while his teammate, Oscar Gomez and Harding’s Collin Campbell split the Pitcher of the Week honor.
 
GAC BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Ty Huie, East Central, OF, Sr., Powderly, Texas
Huie proved to be a near impossible out in the Tigers’ three-game series against Arkansas-Monticello. He went 7-for-8 in the series with the Boll Weevils and registered a .900 on-base percentage. He homered, tripled, scored four runs and drove in three in the series while recording three multi-hit games. He added two stolen bases.
 
GAC BASEBALL CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Collin Campbell, Harding, RHP, Jr., McCrory, Arkansas
Campbell pitched a four-hit complete game against Northwestern Oklahoma State and allowed only one unearned run. His 10 strikeouts established a career high and topped his previous high of seven. He registered at least one strikeout in six of the seven innings and struck out the side in the seventh to close out the game.
 
GAC BASEBALL CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Oscar Gomez, East Central, RHP, Sr., Montclair, California
Gomez tossed his second complete game of the year as he limited Arkansas-Monticello to just one unearned run in a 3-1 victory. He allowed only six hits in the victory. He struck out 10 to now rank fourth in the conference. He also ranks in the top five in earned run average and opponent’s batting average.
 
NOTABLE PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
  • Evan Comeau, Jr., SS, Arkansas-Monticello (Hit. 571 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base over three games)
  • Bryan Heward, Sr., OF, Arkansas Tech (Hit .563 with four home runs and seven RBI as ATU went 3-1, with a sweep of SWOSU)
  • Jeff Martin, Sr., INF, Northwestern Oklahoma State (Went 4-for-9 with a double and two RBI)
  • Carver Rademacher, Jr., 1B, Southern Arkansas (Drove in 10 runs while hitting .611 [11-for-18]; had four multi-hit games)
  • Davis Richardson, Jr., C, Harding (Collected seven hits in 13 at bats; scored four times and drove in six)
  • Jordan Taylor, So., DH/2B, Henderson State (Totaled eight hits, including three doubles in four starts, drove in five runs)
 
NOTABLE PITCHER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
  • Trent Armstrong, So., RHP, Arkansas Tech (Threw 129 pitches in a complete game win vs Southwestern Oklahoma State)
